The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA has recorded major operational successes after intelligence-led airstrikes killed several terrorists and foiled bandit movements in Niger and Kaduna states.
Military sources disclosed on Tuesday that the operations, carried out by the Air Component on 29 June 2026, dealt a significant blow to criminal elements by neutralizing multiple terrorists and disrupting planned attacks across the Joint Operations Area.
In Niger State, the airstrikes targeted more than 200 suspected terrorists on motorcycles in the Dogon Dawa axis of Shiroro Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, supported by human intelligence sources, the Air Component tracked the terrorists as they converged in groups before identifying a large concentration of motorcycles at a suspected refuelling point.
Following positive target identification, the location was struck in a precision air attack. Battle Damage Assessment indicated that several terrorists were killed, while others fled with injuries towards the Kurugin Maidawa axis. The military said the strike significantly degraded the group’s operational capability and disrupted plans for further attacks.
In a separate operation in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, an Armed Reconnaissance mission intercepted three motorcycles carrying suspected bandits heading towards the Kamuku Forest after intelligence reports warned of planned reprisal attacks on troops following recent clearance operations around Womba.
The suspects attempted to escape after spotting the aircraft but were successfully engaged, thwarting their movement. A follow-up reconnaissance mission conducted with ground troops found no further suspicious activity in the area.
The Theatre Commander commended the professionalism and coordination between the air and land components, describing the operations as further evidence of the effectiveness of the joint campaign against terrorists and bandits.
He assured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would sustain offensive operations until terrorist and bandit strongholds across the North West are dismantled and lasting peace restored.
