The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Engr. Jaji Abdulganiyu, has assured that all personnel of the Service will soon be enrolled in the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Employee Compensation Scheme.
He gave this assurance on Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to the Service’s Headquarters by NSITF delegates to sensitize officers on the benefits of the scheme.
TheFact Daily reports that the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) under the NSITF stems from the Employees’ Compensation Act of 2010, which was passed into law in December 2010 by President Goodluck Jonathan.
NSITF transitioned from a Provident Fund Scheme to the Employees’ Compensation Scheme around 2011, with strategizing and implementation efforts following suit.
The current implementation and sensitization efforts seem to have gained momentum in 2025. In February 2025, the NSITF and the Office of the Head of Service embarked on a sensitization campaign to implement the ECS in the federal civil service.
The NSITF delegation, led by Mr. Sample Ogbonna, Deputy General Manager and FCT Branch Manager, explained that the NSITF scheme provides social security coverage for employees during service and support for those who sustain work-related injuries or accidents that may result in incapacitation, with benefits extending up to the age of 60.
Dr. Ralpheal Odunaya, PSG Group Manager, also delivered an in-depth presentation on the objectives of the Fund and its commitment to employee welfare.
The Controller General commended NSITF for the enlightenment session and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and safety of its workforce through sustainable social security measures.
The event featured an interactive session where officers were educated on the enrollment process and claims procedures.
