Gunmen Attack Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje
The Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has confirmed an attack on it by gunmen.
CSC AD Umar, spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, confirmed the incident in a brief press release Wednesday, 6 July, 2022, saying it occured at about 10pm Tuesday.
TheFact Daily gathers from sources that although details of the incident are still sketchy, a number of unknown men were seen running through the Government Secondary School premises, within the neighborhood, where gunshots and explosions were heard as well as the doing of collapsing zinc.
According to Umar, men of the Armed Squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security agencies attached to the Custodial centre have responded and calm has been restored to the facility, and the situation is under control. He said further details would be made available soon.
Efforts to reach the FCT Police Command’s Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, was unsuccessful as she was not responding to calls and text messages.
It was noted that the development comes shortly after an attack on the security team attached to President Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday, which left two persons injured. However, the president was not in the convoy when the gunmen opened fire.
The security team was on its way to Katsina to prepare for a later visit by Buhari to Daura, his hometown, for the forthcoming sallah celebration.
