IGP Warns Against Case Interference, Orders Tight Osun Election Security

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Riliwan Disu, on Tuesday convened a strategic briefing with members of the Force Management Team, senior commanders and key stakeholders.
At the engagement, which held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the police chief directed officers to uphold professionalism, due diligence and operational discipline.
Addressing senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP commended operatives for their gallantry in combating banditry and violent crime, citing the recent hostage rescue operation in Oyo State as a model of operational excellence. He urged personnel to sustain the momentum in protecting lives and property across the country.
Ahead of the Osun State off-cycle governorship election, IGP Disu directed the Commissioner of Police in the state and those of neighbouring commands to strengthen border security and deploy critical operational assets early to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free poll.
The IGP also issued a stern warning against the unauthorized transfer of cases and undue interference in ongoing investigations, stressing that such practices undermine the integrity of investigations, erode public confidence and hinder the administration of justice. The meeting also reviewed strategies to tackle organized crime and the vandalism of critical national infrastructure.
To strengthen public trust and institutional communication, the IGP announced an executive workshop for all Commissioners of Police on strategic communication, media relations, thought leadership, emotional intelligence and public relations.
He concluded by urging officers to redouble their commitment to the Force’s mandate while thanking Nigerians for providing timely and actionable intelligence, which he described as critical to the success of police operations nationwide.
