Ivory Coast Defeats Nigeria To Emerge AFCON Champions

The Elephants of Ivory Coast on Sunday Defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria to win the 2023 Edition of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Host defeated Nigeria 2-1 within the regulation time in a thrilling rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire to emerge the African Champions.

A perfect header from Captain William Troost-Ekong put the Super Eagles ahead at half-time but was cancelled by a header from Franck Kessie of Ivory Coast.

The Elephants, however, completed the comeback in the 80th minute with a flick from Sebastien Haller.

Although the Super Eagles defeated the Elephants 1-0 in the group stage through a penalty kick from Captain William Troost-Ekong, they refused to fly today in the finals.

The result may not be the best for the country, however, the national team must be commended for lifting a Silver Medal at the tournament.
