Kano Govt Shuts Two Substandard Health Training Institutions
Kano State Government has closed two private health training institutions over regulatory violations and failure to meet the minimum standards for operating health training schools in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi K/Na’isa on Tuesday.
K/Na’isa explained to that the action followed a comprehensive assessment which found both institutions to be operating illegally.
The affected institutions were IBN SINA College of Health Science and Technology, located at Dakata Kawaji adjacent to Juma’at Mosque, and Lifeline College of Health Science and Technology, situated at Dakata Industrial Area, Bela Road, Tsamiyar Gare, along Mai Sikeli Street.
According to the ministry, the two schools were neither properly verified nor approved by the Kano State Ministry of Health and also lacked accreditation from relevant professional and regulatory bodies responsible for health education and training in the country.
The statement added that investigations uncovered major deficiencies in the institutions, including inadequate qualified teaching personnel, poor learning facilities, insufficient infrastructure and non-compliance with established educational and operational standards required for effective health manpower development.
Also, the ministry stated that the institutions failed to adhere to professional ethics, regulatory guidelines and other mandatory requirements put in place to safeguard the quality of healthcare education and ensure the competence of future healthcare professionals.
The ministry further said it remained committed to protecting students, parents and the general public from institutions that compromise educational quality and professional standards.
“The Ministry of Health remains committed to protecting students, parents and the general public from institutions that compromise educational quality and professional standards.
“The training of healthcare workers must be conducted only in institutions that meet approved standards and regulatory requirements”, the statement read.
