Lagos Govt Seals Three-storey Building For Discharging Faecal Matter

Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed a three-storey residential building in Ilasan, Lekki Peninsula II, under Eti-Osa Local Government Area, for unlawfully discharging untreated wastewater and faecal matter into public drains through the use of a pumping machine.

This was according to a post on the Official Facebook page of the Lagos State Government.

The post stated that a whistleblower informed the agency that the building’s occupants were found to be discharging waste at night into surrounding roads, drains, and the nearby lagoon, posing serious public health risks and violating environmental regulations.

Authorities described the incident as a deliberate act capable of spreading communicable diseases and endangering the local ecosystem.

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has continued to demonstrate its dedication to ensuring credible and sustainable wastewater management with the clampdown on a three-storey residential building at Ilasan Lekki peninsula II for a deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater and faecal matter into the public drains, through the use of a pumping machine.

“The Environmental Nuisance was discovered through a complaint received from a whistleblower. The pumping machine, which is used at night is used to pollute the environment, exposing the citizens to communicable diseases, through the discharge of untreated wastewater unto the roads, drains and lagoons,” the post read.
