The Nigerian Army (NA) has commenced investigation into the alleged unprofessional conduct of its personnel in the tragic death of a hotel manager in Umuahia, Abia State.

Army spokesman, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Sunday, expressed the deep concern of the NA over the incident, especially as reported by some online media.

TheFact Daily learns that the hotel manager, Mr Achimugu James Etubi, reportedly died after being tortured and questioned by the unnamed NA personnel over the death of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer, Cadet Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyemereche, who, on a pass, visited Umuahia with his friend, and allegedly drowned inside the swimming pool of the hotel last Tuesday.

The statement expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased Manager, Mr Achimugu James Etubi and the Nigerian Air Force Officer Cadet Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyemereche and assured the public that every effort will be made to ensure that justice is served.

“The Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline, and therefore any personnel found culpable of wrongdoing will face appropriate legal sanctions”, Nwachukwu stated.
