By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Ekiti State Government have initiated a strategic partnership to establish an Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Depot, aimed at boosting indigenous technical capacity, improving operational readiness, and supporting national development.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
The CAS described the initiative as a major step toward achieving self-reliance in aircraft maintenance and strengthening airpower projection for national security.
Air Marshal Aneke noted that Ekiti was selected due to its strong intellectual base and growing reputation as a hub for innovation. He commended the state government for allocating land for a NAF base and related infrastructure, adding that the project would create skilled jobs, stimulate local industry, and support growth in Nigeria’s aviation and engineering sectors. He also reaffirmed plans to expand NAF’s operational presence in the state.
Governor Oyebanji, in his remarks, praised the Air Force’s professionalism and commitment to national stability, pledging full support for the initiative. He said the proposed MRO depot and base would enhance security, attract investment, and drive sustainable development in Ekiti State.
