NAF Trains Troops On Civilian Protection, Air-Ground Operations

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has trained personnel of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2 on civilian harm mitigation and air-to-ground integration as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness while protecting civilians during military operations.

Disclosing this on Tuesday, NAF said the training, conducted by the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre, aligns with its commitment under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to make civilian protection an integral part of air operations.

Air-to-ground integration involves coordinating air and ground forces to improve operational efficiency, intelligence sharing and target identification. Civilian harm mitigation, meanwhile, focuses on reducing the risk of civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure during military engagements.

The orientation training reinforced the importance of coordinated air-ground operations, the responsible application of airpower and practical measures to minimise civilian harm while sustaining the fight against insecurity.

The initiative underscores the NAF’s emphasis on balancing mission effectiveness with the protection of civilian lives in ongoing security operations.
