The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has tasked specialized reporters of the Nigerian power sector to utilize their access to information to promote industry reporting that would better educate the public.
NERC Chairman, Dr Musiliu Oseni, made the call during a courtesy visit of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PCAN) to the NERC Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Dr Oseni who welcomed the collaboration offer from PCAN, further emphasized that informed media coverage was vital to securing public support for ongoing reforms within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Also speaking, the NERC Vice Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Ali, advised the PCAN to bridge the knowledge gap in the sector, noting that a lot of people are bereft of information on how the electricity industry works in Nigeria.
He highlighted debts and vandalism as the two hydra-headed monsters affecting the power sector in the country, assuring that efforts would be intenfisefied to tame them.
Earlier, the PCAN Chairman, Mr. Obas Esiedesa commended the Commission for its improved digital transparency and proactive data sharing.

Mr. Esiedesa who said the association was in NERC to congratulate the new management on the recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu, expressed confidence that the team would resolve the protracted issues in the sector.
He appealed for more enlightenment campaigns for the electricity consumers, especially those at the state levels.
Esiedesa reaffirmed PCAN’s commitment to enhancing the depth and accuracy of reporting within the sector.
