The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has secured a commitment from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Niger State to back its regulatory enforcement operations, following a courtesy visit aimed at deepening collaboration between the two agencies.
The Authority’s State Coordinator for Niger State, Engr. Musa Isyaku, led a delegation to the Niger State Police Command Headquarters in Dutsen-kura, Minna recently, where he met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman.
During the visit, Isyaku outlined NMDPRA’s mandate to regulate the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors and stressed the need for police security support during inspection and enforcement exercises targeting illegal and unlicensed operators.
He also raised concerns over individuals impersonating NMDPRA officials to extort petroleum marketers, as well as reports of illegally fabricated NMDPRA identification cards and number plates, asking the Police Command to help investigate and address both issues.
In his response, CP Elleman assured the delegation of the Command’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with NMDPRA, particularly around enforcement, inspection, and the protection of regulatory staff.
He promised adequate security support for legitimate NMDPRA operations and gave assurance that the complaints raised would be investigated.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to regulatory compliance, the protection of legitimate petroleum businesses, and the fight against illegal activities in Niger State’s petroleum sector.
