For embarking on people oriented development initiatives, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is representing Karu/Kokona/Keffi at the House of Representatives, Hon Gaza Jonathan, has endorsed Nasarawa State governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for a second term.
Hon. Jonathan moved for the governor’s endorsement during the town hall meeting, organized for stakeholders in Karu Local Government Area, on Thursday.
The PDP lawmaker, after speaking extensively on the various interventions initiated by Engineer Sule at the federal level, to attract development to the state, particularly to Karu Local Government Area, being the gateway to the Federal Capital Territory, Hon Jonathan, moved for the endorsement of the governor, whereby the lawmaker representing Karu/Gitata constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. David Maiyaki, seconded the motion.
Subsequently, stakeholders attending the town hall meeting, unanimously endorsed Engineer Sule for a another term in office.
Other speakers at the parley, opened up to the governor on the urgent need to address infrastructure deficits in Karu, as well as create more employment opportunities for women and youths in the area.
Also speaking, a Karu youth leader, Usman Suleiman Adam, while commending the governor for his all-inclusive style of governance, however appealed for the government to employ youths of the area, not only at the construction site of the ongoing Karu Mega Bus Terminal, but to ensure that Karu youths are employed to man the facility on completion.
Hajiya Rabi Toro, a woman leader in the area, made case for the appointment of the zonal and Karu LGA women leader for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding, Engineer Sule reiterated that the town hall meeting was organised in order to hear from the people on the direction taken by the administration so far.
The governor explained that since his assumption of office, he has been utilizing federal appointees, as well as the elected national assembly members, to canvass for projects to be sited in Nasarawa State.
Engineer Sule added that, from his experience from the organized private sector, he needed no telling that, effective utilisation, the potentials in Karu is sufficient to foot the bills of the state.
On the Karu Mega Bus Terminal, which the consultant handling the project, assured that it will be completed in July this year, the governor said it’s not the wish of his administration to take the project from the community but to ensure that they benefit from the project.Commenting on the call for the re-establishment of the Abuja satellite towns development agency by Hon. Sani Suraj, the governor explained that alongside his Niger State counterpart, they have been making case for the re-establishment of the agency, in order for the federal government, to pool resources, to bring much needed development to areas such as Karshi, Gurku, Gitata, among others.
Engineer Sule disclosed that his administration is discussing with a private investor for the laying of a light rail track, running from Apo to Keffi, in order to ease traffic along the congested Keffi-Abuja expressway.
According to the governor, part of the plan will involve constructing expansive parking lots in Keffi, to allow commuters from different parts of the state and interstate travellers, to park their cars and take the fast train to Abuja, without having to experience the traffic gridlock on the expressway.
