New PENGASSAN leadership has assured the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission of its full cooperation in achieving the federal government’s goal of producing 3 million barrels of crude oil per day by 2030.
Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, newly elected President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), made this pledge during a courtesy visit to NUPRC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
“The President of Nigeria has an ambition which he runs through the CCE which is to make sure that by 2030 we are able to produce 3 million barrels per day. All of us have to work to make that happen. It will be our happiness to make sure that that target is actually attained,” Olabiyi-Agoro said.
“We can assure you that we are here to collaborate. We will be very reasonable,” he added.
While affirming the union’s openness to negotiation, the PENGASSAN President stressed that workers’ rights to freely associate and join the union remain non-negotiable. He also indicated that his administration would prioritize resolving issues around contract staffing.
Responding, NUPRC Commission Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan said the Bola Tinubu administration had continued to push for higher output, pointing to a recent executive order aimed at boosting deep offshore investment.
She noted that national production had climbed from a low of 1.1 million barrels per day in previous years to an estimated 1.755 million barrels per day in 2026, adding that sustained industrial harmony would be essential to reaching more ambitious targets.
Eyesan, according to a statement by the NUPRC’s Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, called on PENGASSAN to back the commission’s efforts going forward.
“As you settle into your new role, be assured that the commission will give you 150% cooperation. In addition to the support we will give you, we want to ask that we work very closely to actualize government objectives.
“We want to grow production from our current level to 3 million barrels in 2030. For gas, we are still doing under 8bcf and we want to grow that to 12bcf by 2030. So, let’s make that happen,” she said.
