Police Seize Over N82.7m Worth Of Intoxicants In Kano

Operatives of the Kano state Police Command have recovered a cache of intoxicants valued N82,725,000.

The state Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed on Saturday that the recovery of the Illicit substances and arrest of a suspect followed intensified robust intelligence-led and community-centric policing initiatives in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Kiyawa disclosed that the Command on 20th September 2025, at about 1PM, received credible information about a a suspicious vehicle carrying cartons suspected to contain intoxicants somewhere in the Rimin Auzinawa Quarters in the state.

“Acting promptly on the report, a team of policemen, on the direction of the Command CP, trailed the vehicle to the quarters. Upon arrival, the team cordoned off the house where the vehicle was parked and successfully arrested one Usman Umar (m), 19 years old, a resident of the house”, Kiyawa stated.

A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of
603 packets of suspected Tramadol tablets, containing 60,300 pieces, valued at N60,300,000 and 299 packets of suspected Pregabalin capsules, consisting of 44,850 pieces, valued at N22,425,000, bringing the total estimated value of the intercepted intoxicants to N82,725,000.

Kiyawa said the suspect is currently helping investigation to uncover the network behind this illegal trade and bring all culprits to justice.

While commending the vigilance and cooperation of the citizens of the state whose timely information was instrumental to the significant breakthrough recorded, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, also reiterated the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

He urged the public to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them of prompt action and confidentiality so that “together, we can build a safer and drug-free Kano state”.
