Seplat Energy has planted 200,000 trees under its Tree4Life Programme, a milestone that brings the company closer to its target of one million trees by 2030 while creating jobs and skills in host communities.
The Tree4Life Programme, Seplat Energy’s flagship reforestation and biodiversity initiative, links environmental restoration with community development.
The company’s 2025 Social Performance Report shows that the programme has set up nurseries holding more than 175,000 seedlings. It has also trained over 300 community members in tree planting, nursery management and sustainable land use.
Seplat, in a statement on Tuesday said, the benefits extend beyond the environment, noting that more than 350 community members have worked on the project, handling site preparation, planting, nursery management and logistics.
This has opened up significant economic opportunities in participating communities. The programme has also built local capacity and promoted sustainable farming, strengthening livelihoods alongside conservation.
Seplat Energy says the project’s long-term success depends on working closely with host communities and key stakeholders. Through continuous engagement, the company is encouraging shared ownership of forest protection and environmental stewardship at every project location.
Building on the 200,000-tree milestone, Seplat Energy plans to scale up the programme from 2026 as part of a wider strategy to restore degraded landscapes, improve biodiversity and support global efforts to tackle climate change.
It will continue phased planting across the project area and strengthen maintenance, survival monitoring and replacement planting to maximise long-term impact.
The company also plans to expand its environmental and social baseline studies, improve biodiversity monitoring and strengthen the measurement and verification of carbon sequestration in line with internationally recognised standards. These steps are expected to support the goal of one million trees by 2030 and deliver lasting environmental and social value.
The Tree4Life Programme reflects Seplat Energy’s commitment to responsible energy development, environmental sustainability and inclusive growth. It shows how climate action can be combined with community empowerment to benefit present and future generations.
