The Federal Airport Authority(FAAN) has appealed to aviation unions to embrace dialogue, saying it is better alternatives in addressing industrial issues.
FAAN made the appeal on Saturday in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah.
TheFactDaily gathered that the union issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to meet their demands by including their members in the concession committee overseeing FAAN.
Also, the immediate approval and implementation of FAAN’s revised Conditions of Service within two months.
The unions which includes, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) warned that failure to meet their demand could lead to industrial action.
However, FAAN said it was important to put the fact right and address misconstrued issues.
“the Aviation Unions during the workers Congress held on Tuesday 25th February, 2025 had raised concerns over the non-inclusion of members in the ongoing airports concession committee deliberations, delay in the implementation of the negotiated consequential adjustment of the New Minimum Wage among others.
“These issues were presented to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo during an interactive meeting with Aviation Unions held on Friday, 28th February, 2025 in Lagos.
“In his response, the Minister directed immediate inclusion of the Unions’ representatives in the concession committee to ensure transparency, emphasizing that the unions get full information as the concession process is ongoing.
“The Minister also, assured the Unions that he would also step-in to ensure the immediate implementation of the new salary review for staff of FAAN.FAAN remains resolute towards implementing her core values,”.
The authority added that it was working with the Minister and Aerospace Development, to maintain cordial relations with the Aviation Unions as continuous dialogue and understanding are better alternatives in addressing industrial issues.
FAAN assured the flying public of providing best services in the nation’s Airport operations in line with global best practices.
