Tinubu To Attend National Burial For Slain Soldiers

By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu would attend the National Burial for the Nigerian Soldiers killed by some gunmen in Okuama Community in Delta State.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, disclosed this in a tweet on his X handle on Wednesday, 27, 2024.

He noted that his attendance will be the first in the last ten years that a Nigerian President will attend such a solemn event, in honour of men of gallantry and valour.

His tweet read thus: “It is confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will be attending the national burial for the Nigerian military officers and soldiers killed on 14 March by some gunmen in Okuama Community in Delta State.

“It is the first time in the last ten years that a Nigerian President will attend such a solemn event, in honour of our men of gallantry and valor. Two other burials in 2021 and 2018 were not graced by the incumbent. We told you then that President Bola Tinubu cares. He is demonstrating it yet again”, he wrote on his X handle.

It would be recalled that troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army, while on a peaceful Mission to quell a communal clash between Okuama and Okolaba Communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi Local Government Areas of Delta State, were ambushed and killed by some gunmen on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The sad incidence led to the death of a commanding officer, 2 Majors, 1 Captain and 12 soldiers.
