By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Troops of Sector 6, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), in the early hours of Thursday, 2 July 2026, foiled an attempted attack on a guard location at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos South LGA of Plateau State.

According to military authorities, suspected armed criminals, at about 12:10am, attempted to breach the institute’s perimeter under cover of darkness but were swiftly engaged by alert troops in a decisive exchange of fire. One assailant was neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds toward nearby high ground. No troop casualties were recorded.

Following the encounter, troops recovered an AK-pattern rifle (Reg. No. CO-3175) with sixteen rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Preliminary findings indicate the weapon belonged to a Nigerian Army soldier killed during an earlier encounter at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, on 11 April 2026. The remains of the neutralised assailant have been evacuated for proper handling by relevant authorities.
