Troops of the Nigerian Army, NA, supported by the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole, OPLD, have successfully thwarted Boko Haram terrorists’ incursion into Damasak, the Headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
It was gathered from a statement issued yesterday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen. Mohamed Yerima, that the gallant troops achieved the feat on Saturday, 10 April, with the use of superior fire power with which they engaged the terrorists, from both the air and on the ground compelling them to withdraw in disarray with several men and equipment casualty.
Sadly, however, 2 gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while 3 others, one officer and 2 soldiers, were injured. The injured are currently recuperating at a military hospital in Maiduguri.
In another development, troops of Sector 1, OPLD, while on picketing duty along road Ngwom – Mafa to Maiduguri on Sunday, 11 April, decisively neutralised 7 members of the Boko Haram Terrorists group supposedly lying in wait to attack the troops and other innocent citizens plying the busy road. Luck ran out on the terrorists as they were instead caught in the surprise attack.
During the encounter, in which seven terrorists were neutralised, four AK-47 rifles were recovered along with several other items.
After the duel and successful neutralization of the terrorists, the troops continued their their clearance patrol up to Maiduguri.
According to Yerima, troops of OPLD will continue to maintain aggressive posture to ensure the entire area is cleared of terrorists elements and their activities while maintaining high morale and fighting efficiency.
