Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under Operation DESERT SANITY and SIEGE OPERATIONS have repelled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on military positions in Kirawa, along the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Borno State.
OPHK’s Media Information Officer, Lt Col. Sani Uba, made this known on Saturday.
According to him, the attack, which occurred in the early hours of May 22, targeted positions held by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and associated forces in Sector 1 of the North-East Joint Task Force area of operations.
Alert troops, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, swiftly detected the infiltration attempt and responded with heavy firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat towards the Cameroon axis.
Military authorities said 12 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds, as indicated by blood trails along their withdrawal routes.
Troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade systems, ammunition, and a PKT machine gun from the fleeing insurgents.
Air Component platforms of Operation HADIN KAI, alongside Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets and partner forces, provided coordinated support throughout the operation.
The military said troops have maintained heightened vigilance in the area, while exploitation operations are ongoing to track fleeing terrorists and recover additional weapons.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, urging them to sustain the operational momentum against terrorist elements across the theatre.
