Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have sustained the momentum of offensive operations against terrorists across the North West, rescuing 27 kidnap victims, foiling attempted abductions, and recovering livestock and motorcycles in a series of successful operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
OPFY’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, made the disclosure on Tuesday.
According to him, troops of the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Shagari and Sifawa, on 20July acting on credible intelligence, swiftly deployed to Wanke and Kaura communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State following reports of terrorist activity.
On arrival at Kaura, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee in disarray. Six kidnap victims were rescued, while livestock and two motorcycles were recovered. The victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
In a related operation the same day, troops operating in Gandi, in collaboration with the State Security Community Guard Corps, rescued 10 kidnap victims who had escaped from their abductors and were found wandering in the bush near Badanma community in Gandi Local Government Area. The victims, comprising men, women and children, were handed over to community leaders before being reunited with their families.
On 21 July 2026, troops of Combat Team 12 responded to a distress call along the Gummi–Sokoto Road after terrorists blocked the highway in an attempt to abduct commuters. The troops engaged the terrorists and pursued them, rescuing 11 kidnapped persons and recovering one motorcycle.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response, which ensured the safe rescue of the victims. It also appreciated members of the public for their continued support and timely provision of credible intelligence, urging citizens to remain vigilant and sustain cooperation with security agencies as ongoing operations continue to degrade terrorist and criminal networks across the theatre.
