Umahi Walks Out On Journalists, Calls Them ‘Non-existent’

Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi who is fast gaining popularity for his indiscriminate and unruly gestures towards journalists walked out on journalists who were invited to cover a press conference today.

Umahi, after calling for a press conference at the Ministry’s headquarters by 2pm walked into the meeting by 2:48pm in the company of his Spokesperson, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and other officials.

TheFact Daily recalls that during a stakeholder meeting on compensation for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, Umahi made caricature of a female journalist, Laila Johnson -Salami on a live broadcast.

Despite arriving late without apologies, after the recitation of the national anthem, the Minister walked out of the venue of the conference saying, “there is no press here. The press conference is not held again. When the press is ready.

“The permanent secretary and other directors should follow me to my office. The press is not existent.”

Invited reporters present at the event include those from The Nation, The Guardian, Vanguard, Blueprint, Arise TV, Channels TV and NTA, among others.

There has been so far no official statement by the ministry concerning the incident.
