Thousands of electricity customers in parts of Abuja have been without bulk power supply since the weekend after a technical fault damaged a circuit breaker at the Kubwa Transmission Substation, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said.
TCN stated that its maintenance crew is working to fix the fault on the 33kV NIPP feeder at the Kubwa 132/33kV Transmission Substation, which first tripped at 9:39am on Sunday, September 20, 2026, due to an earth fault.
It said Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) technicians subsequently patrolled the line and cleared it for restoration, however, when it attempted to restore the feeder at 6:34pm the same day, it tripped again, this time on overcurrent and earth fault, shattering the blue phase interrupter head of the circuit breaker.
The damage, TCN said has left AEDC unable to draw bulk power for customers in FO1, Dantata Estate, Byazhin, Byazhin Across, and Gbazango.
It apologized for the inconvenience and said power would be restored once repairs to the breaker are completed.
