1,638 Families Of Fallen Police Officers Receive Financial Support

The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the Office of the First Lady has provided financial empowerment packages to 1,638 families of police officers who died in the line of duty, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the loss of their breadwinners and support the families’ livelihoods.

The intervention was presented on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, during the second edition of the RHI Social Investment Programme’s support for families of fallen security personnel.

The programme targets families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The financial packages are intended to help beneficiaries rebuild their livelihoods and cater to the needs of their dependants.

The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), championed by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is a social intervention platform focused on supporting vulnerable Nigerians through targeted welfare, empowerment and social investment programmes. Its intervention for families of fallen security personnel is aimed at recognising their sacrifices and providing practical assistance to those left behind.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, attended the ceremony and delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

Disu expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of national gratitude and compassion towards families whose loved ones paid the ultimate price in the service of the country.

The IGP said the intervention went beyond financial assistance, noting that it reflected an effort to restore dignity and stand with families at their most vulnerable moments.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Disu assured them that the supreme sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten by a grateful nation.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and providing continuous support to families of officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.

The ceremony was attended by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA); and wives of heads of security agencies.
