House of Reps Begins Screening Of Service Chiefs

The House of Representatives has today begun the screening of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.

Chairman, Committee on Defence and Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee screening the Service Chiefs, Hon. Babajimi Benson, assured the Service Chiefs that upon confirmation of their appointments, and urged all hands to be on deck in the fight against banditry, armed robbery and miscellaneous criminality.

TheFact Nigeria notes that this is the first time the House of Representatives would be conducting the screening of Service Chiefs, which Benson said, is in accordance with provisions of Section 18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 which requires that the nominees be confirmed by the National Assembly.

Candidates for screening include Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Lucky E.O Irabor; Chief of Army Staff Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao.

The public screening of the Service Chiefs was followed by a closed door session for the members of the Committee to confer before giving thier verdict.
