The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has said it is making deliberate efforts to get at those peddling false information about recruitment exercise.
The Service’s Public Relations Officer, Amos Okpu, disclosed this in a statement Monday, 22 August, in which he called on the general public to disregard media reports to the effect that the Service was conducting a recruitment exercise.
TheFact Daily gathers that some national dailies had quoted the Comptroller General of the NIS, Isah Jere Idris, as saying that plans are underway in the Service to recruit about 5,000 personnel to address the manpower defiicit in the NIS.
The statement said, in the ‘spurious publications’, unsuspecting job seekers were required to visit a certain portal to apply, after which they would be directed to a link where they would be expected to make some payment.
“These reports including the portal are not only false but are also calculated ploys to deceive and defraud unsuspecting job seekers into parting away with their hard earned resources. The Service is currently NOT conducting any recruitment exercise and therefore members of the public are by this notice enjoined to ignore such publications to avoid falling victim to the antics of job scammers”, he said.
It further restated that the Service would always employ all the conventional and verified social media platforms including the website to announce any recruitment exercise, and would never require applicants to make any payments whatsoever.
