The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has assured delivery of Obiafu- Obrikom – Obem Gas Pipeline Project.
NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the project in Rivers State.
The OB3 project which is being built by NNPC limited is designed to connect gas pipelines from Nigeria’s eastern region to the western part of Nigeria.
On an inspection tour of the project, NNPC group chief executive officer, Mele Kyari says the project when completed will usher in Nigeria’s gas revolution.
“We know that the gas has reached this location, once we cross the river Niger the gas revolution in the domestic market of Nigeria would have been delivered.
“This is a critical project, we did have some technical issues but I am confident that the team can deliver on this”, Kyari said.
The OB3 pipeline project is expected to commercialise over 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day and generate billions in revenue as well as create thousands of employment opportunities for Nigerians.
It is planned to feed the Asa North-Ohaji South, ANOH, gas project, one of the largest green field gas condensate development projects, that will produce 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, an equivalent of approximately 2.4 gigawatts of electricity for the country.
The project involves the construction of a 127km, 48-inch gas pipeline with a capacity of 56.6m3 per day from Obiafu and Obrikom in Rivers State to Oben in Edo State.
The US$662 million project includes the construction of storage tanks, metering stations and related infrastructure, the installation of equipment, and the laying of pipelines.
Handled by Oilserv Limited, the project was initially slated for completion in 2017, but was stalled due to technical hitches reports say the latest challenge for the completion of the project has to do with the crossing of River Niger.
