Scores of women and youth in the early hours of today, Monday, February 26, 2024, staged a peaceful protest to express their grievances over the high cost of living in the country.
The protesters who were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions on the streets of Lagos were under the sponsorship of “Take It Back Movement”.
It was also extended to Benin, the Edo State Capital, where the protesters were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as “End Economic Hardship” and “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now,” to express their grievances.
This is coming ahead of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) nationwide protest scheduled to take effect from tomorrow, February 27 to 28, 2024.
The leadership of the NLC had declared a two-day nationwide protest over the current economic hardship in the country.
NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero made the declaration during a Press Conference in Abuja on Friday, February 16, 2024.
Ajaero accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of failure to address the hardship being experienced by Nigerians since the removal of the fuel subsidy in May 2023.
The last meeting between the Federal Government and the leadership of the NLC/Trade Union Congress (TUC) could not produce any meaningful results.
The protest over the high cost of living in Nigeria, first started in Minna, the Niger State Capital where scores of women and youth in the early hours of Monday, February 5, 2024, staged a peaceful protest to express their grievances over the high cost of living, erratic power supply and water scarcity in the state.
The protesters blocked the Minna Bida Road for hours preventing vehicular movement to press home their demands.
