The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has raised alarm over a wave of fraudulent recruitment schemes exploiting its name, warning that criminals are using fake and AI-generated employment letters to deceive job seekers.
In a statement issued Tuesday by the NUPRC’s Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, the Commission said he had received reports of forged offer letters circulating with the names of individuals who have no connection to NUPRC.
The statement noted that some unscrupulous persons have gone further, extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of helping them to secure jobs at the agency.
NUPRC said it has already reported the activities of these criminal elements to law enforcement agencies and awaits an outcome of investigation, saying members of the public are advised to be circumspect, so they don’t fall victim.
The Commission urged Nigerians to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to the scheme, stating clearly that there is no ongoing recruitment exercise at NUPRC.
“When the Commission does decide to recruit, it will be done strictly in line with the extant laws and government regulations,” the statement said.
