EFCC Threatens To Sue Odinkalu Over Comment On Bobrisky
By Sunday Etuka, Abuja
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has threatened to take legal actions against Chidi Odinkalu over his comment on the arrest of Idris Okuneye (a.k.a Bobrisky) by the Commission.
EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale disclosed this in a statement on Friday, April 5, 2024.
The former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, in his commentary, described the arrest of Bobrisky as evidence of idleness or an abuse of power.
This, the EFCC viewed as reckless and offensive, especially, coming from a former head of a major government agency.
The Commission, thus, clarified that Okuneye was arrested and arraigned on the basis of clear cases of abuse of the Naira to which he has pleaded guilty.
While noting that Odinkalu has a right to free speech as a Nigerian, the EFCC said, such a right should be exercised with decorum and responsibility.
The Commission warned that it would not hesitate to take appropriate legal actions against such uncouth commentaries against its lawful mandate by anyone.
“Odinkalu is warned and advised to ventilate his rascally opinions more responsibly in future situations”, the anti-graft agency said.
