South-East Governors Condemn Horrific Attack On Soldiers

The South-East Governors, under the umbrella of the South-East Governors’ Forum have condemned the brutal attack on soldiers lawfully performing their duties in Aba, Abia State.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma condemned the attack on behalf of the other governors in a post on his X handle on Friday.

TheFact Daily reports that the soldiers were attacked by suspected terrorists of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) on Thursday.

They were attacked at an outpost located on the popular Obikabia junction off Umuola in Aba North local government area of Abia State.

According to the statement released earlier by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the attack claimed the lives of five military personnel.

He also confirmed that six civilians were killed in the crossfire between the terrorists and the troops, vowing that the military would be fierce in its response.

Describing the attack as reprehensible, Uzodimma called for thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He said: “This reprehensible act by criminals is a terrible practice that undermines our collective security and must be thoroughly investigated, with the perpetrators swiftly brought to justice by our security agencies.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the Chief of Army Staff and the entire Nigerian Army for this grievous loss.

“May God grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and bestow upon their families the strength and fortitude to bear this profound loss”, he said.
