The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), Idowu Oguntona has disclosed that the company has transported over 52 million people in Lagos State within five years of operation.
Oguntona disclosed this at the weekend during a fitness walk and health check organised by the company for its staff as part of activities to mark five years of operation in the State.
He further revealed that the company has so far covered over 27 million kilometres, and constantly provided mobility for 60,000 Lagos residents on daily basis.
Commending the tall achievement, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi said, the transportation company, since its inception, prioritizes customer satisfaction, ensuring that passengers enjoy reliable, safe, and efficient transit services.
Osiyemi stated that the Company’s dedication to enhancing public transport experience and service delivery has not only improved daily commutes but also set a new standard in the industry.
He maintained that transportation occupies an important position in the THEMES Plus Agenda of the present administration in the State because of the importance attached to movement of goods, services and people.
Osiyemi gave the assurance that the state government will continue to ensure constant review of its transportation architecture to meet the demands of the ever-increasing population of residents of the State through a sustainable and well-integrated public transportation.
He urged the staff of LBSL to be more resourceful and committed to their duties by maintaining a top-notch customer service and good interpersonal relationships with Lagosians.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Wale Musa, also acknowledged the achievements recorded by the organization within the few years of its existence.
He urged the management and staff of LBSL not to be complacent with the success story of the organization but be more dedicated and determined to surpass the current status quo, saying that Lagosians expect much more from the company.
Meanwhile, Oguntona revealed that the company which started with just five routes in 2019 now boasts of over 30 routes, due to the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He also stated that in line with the promise made by the Governor in providing reliable, efficient and safe public transportation, the fleet of buses available to LBSL in 2019 rose from 50 buses to 300 buses as at today.
Speaking further, the Managing Director informed that there is much to expect from the organization going forward.
“In keeping in line with the vision of President Bola Tinubu on a clean and green economy, it means that public transportation will be running on clean energy, leveraging the huge gas possibility that we have to power our buses. We have started a pilot with the private sector under the leadership of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to see how the buses can perform in our environment”, he noted.
