By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Lagos state Police Command says it has summoned the officers involved in the alleged N1m extortion from corps members.

The state Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin made this known on X while responding to a social media user, Oluyemi Fasipe’s post on the matter on Friday.

TheFact Daily reports that footage of the encounter between the corps members and officers had made the rounds on social media late Thursday. The incident is said to have happened in the Surulere area of Lagos.

In one of the videos, police officers were seen searching the car occupants’ documents. The situation later became heated leading to more officers coming to the scene. An officer was later spotted entering the car while asking them to stop filming the incident. He also barred them from calling their loved ones.

Fasipe, who shared the videos, alleged that the officers took 1 million naira from the corps members. He wrote: “Dear @BenHundeyin, Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from three corps members. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed.

“Their offence was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil!”

Responding, Hundeyin wrote: “The men have been summoned and their trial has commenced. We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial.”
