The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono has been recognized with the Nigerian Patriotic Leadership Excellence Award in Education Development by the Nigerian Patriotism Award.
This first edition of the prestigious award which took place on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, acknowledges Echono’s remarkable contributions to the advancement of tertiary education in Nigeria and beyond.
The award ceremony took place during a book launch tagged, “Celebrating Patriotism and National Development” which brought together policymakers, business leaders, diplomats, and future leaders to explore level of patriotism in Nigeria.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the President of Nigerian Patriotism Awards, Barrister Ephraim Victor Okon said the essence of the ceremony was to honour the unwavering spirit of Nigerians.
“This esteem event is dedicated to recognizing the unsung heroes and devoted citizens whose contributions have profoundly shaped our nation’s progress. From fostering unity and peace to driving innovation and growth”, he said.
According to him, TETFund under Arc. Sonny Echono had made significant strides in enhancing Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. One of the key areas of progress had been the increased investment in quality education and skills development.
This investment to him, will provide a globally competitive workforce, driven by curriculum reforms that foster creativity, critical thinking, and innovative skills.
“The ongoing reforms at TETFund will successfully bridge the gap between educational systems and societal needs, raising academic standards and empowering students to become job creators rather than job seekers. TETFund has launched several innovative programs and initiatives under Echono’s stewardship.
“Arc. Sonny Echono’s visionary leadership and relentless pursuit of excellence have therefore earned him the Nigerian Patriotism Award in Education Development. His contributions inspire and guide Africa towards sustainable development and global prominence, painting an optimistic vision for Nigeria future leaders driven by education and entrepreneurial innovation.
“His legacy as a leader in educational innovation and is firmly established, making a lasting impact on Nigeria’s educational sector”, he added.
Speaking after receiving the award, the Director, Public Affairs of TETFund, Abdulmumin Oniyangi who received the award on behalf of the Executive Secretary expressed appreciation to the President and members of Nigerian Patriotism Award for the recognition, noting that the award would further stimulate the Fund’s management to greater productivity.
