The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation has disclosed plans to partner the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) to enhance sugar production in the country.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev announced this on Tuesday in Abuja when the Executive Secretary, National Sugar Development Council, Mr Kamar Bakrin led members of the council on a courtesy call on him in his office.
According to a statement made available by his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Terhemen Oraduen, Prof. Utsev said such partnership would be in the area of provision of sustainable water to sugarcane farms and factories in the country to ensure steady production of the commodity.
He informed the team that plans were on to desilt major rivers ,dams and reservoirs in the country to enable unhindered water supply to sugarcane farms and tackle perennial flooding as well as enhance the blue economy.
He expressed optimism that when the sector is developed ,more jobs will be created for the teaming youths of the country and will also boost the nation’s economy.
Utsev who acknowledged the contributions of the National Sugar Development Council for economic growth and investment opportunities it has created, thanked them for believing in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration who is working day and night to make Nigeria more prosperous assuring the team of a rubost partnership to achieve its set target.
Earlier, Executive Secretary National Sugar Development Council Mr Bakrin explained that the visit was to seek partnership with the ministry in the provision of sustainable water supply to its existing farms and factories to increase sugar production in the country and bridge the present gap in sugar production.
