Police operatives of the Enugu State Command have repelled an armed robbery attack, and recovered firearms, ammunition and stolen vehicles.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who made the disclosure on Thursday, said the success recorded by the operatives followed recent multiple operations conducted by them.
On February 24, 2025, operatives attached to the 9th Mile Police Division repelled an armed robbery attack along Owa Road, 9th Mile, neutralising one of the armed men while others escaped.
A cut-to-size double-barreled gun with three live cartridges, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, and other exhibits were recovered from the suspect. A manhunt for the other suspects, who fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries, is ongoing.
Similarly, in a separate operation, police operatives from the Igbo-Etiti Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one 23-year-old Sunday Ejiofor, on February 14, 2025, and recovered a stolen blue Toyota Corolla car from him. The suspect confessed to stealing the vehicle from where it was parked in a compound at Orba in Udenu LGA on the same date. He has since been arraigned in court and remanded at the Correctional Custodial Centre following the conclusion of the investigation by the Udenu Police Division, which has jurisdiction over the case.
Furthermore, on February 1, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., operatives from the New Haven Division recovered a Toyota Corolla car that was reportedly stolen from where it was parked at Igbo Eze Street, Independence Layout, Enugu, earlier that night at about 12:05 a.m.
According to Ndukwe, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting the operatives who were on their trail. The car has since been released to its owner.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering resolve to combat crime in Enugu State, and has emphasized the importance of continuous support from citizens.
