Imo Police Arrest Five Suspects Linked To Emekuku’s Assault

Operatives of the Imo state Police Command have arrested five suspects linked to the brutal assault of a woman, captured in a viral video.

The Command‘s spokesperson, DSP Okoye Henry, who disclosed this on Monday, said the arrest followed investigations as ordered by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma.

It will be recalled that the Police command on 4th November announced that it was launching an investigation into the assault of 55-year-old Ndidiamaka Agu by a group of men at Emekuku near Owerri, the state capital after a video of the dastardly act went viral.

According to the Police, the assault was allegedly carried out on the woman because she had cooperated with police officers in an investigation.

The command listed the arrested suspects as: Onyekachi Njoku, .Chiazor Osuji, Chukwuma Iwuala, Eugene Njoku and Njoku Emmanuel, all of Uboegbelu in Emekuku, Owerri North LGA, adding that all five suspects have made confessional statements admitting their roles in the attack.

Okoye said that the sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, is still at large, and operatives are intensifying efforts to apprehend him.

The Commissioner of Police, who condemned the assault in its entirety, reaffirmed that intimidation of citizens who lawfully cooperate with the Police will not be tolerated., adding that “the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soonest with the appropriate criminal charges”.
