The Paris Saint Germain’s and Morocco’s Atlas Loin’s Captain, Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 African Footballer of the Year in Rabat, Morocco.
The 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain’s right-back, who captains the Atlas Lions, outshone Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to claim the prestigious honor.
Hakimi’s remarkable season with PSG, where he contributed greatly in securing the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and UEFA Super Cup, made him the overall contender.
In his speech, he said it’s a proud moment, not just for him but for everyone in Africa who dreams of making it in football.
“This trophy is not just for me. It’s for all the Africans. The strong men and women that have dreams and those that dreamt of becoming footballers.
“And you know for those that always believed in me from when I was a kid even up until now that I become this player that I am today, he said.
The event celebrated African football excellence.
Hakimi’s award highlights Morocco’s growing influence in global football, following the country’s impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup.
