How Federal Fire Service Saved ₦6.3Bn Property In Abuja

The Federal Fire Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Blake Resort, a popular event and relaxation centre in Garki II, Abuja, saving property estimated at ₦6.3 billion.

The Service’s National PRO/ Headline, Corporate Services, DCF P.O Abraham, who disclosed this, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and is suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge.

He explained that upon receiving a distress call, firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene. Fire appliances FFS 75 and FFS 178 responded from the Service Headquarters, while Fire Appliance FFS 88 was mobilised from the Apo Fire Station to reinforce containment efforts.

In a demonstration of inter-agency collaboration, the FCT Fire Service also deployed personnel and equipment to support the operation. Both agencies worked in coordination to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.

According to Abraham, preliminary assessments indicate that property worth approximately ₦1.2 billion was destroyed in the fire. However, the prompt and professional intervention of firefighters prevented further losses, safeguarding assets valued at about ₦6.3 billion.

The fire was eventually brought under control and completely extinguished, with no casualties recorded as of the time of filing this report.

The Federal Fire Service has reiterated the need for regular inspection and maintenance of electrical installations, especially in public facilities, as part of proactive fire prevention measures.

The Service affirmed its continued commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid response, professionalism, and sustained collaboration with other emergency agencies.
