The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has warned heads of agencies under the ministry to uphold strict accountability and deliver measurable results.

Oyetola gave the directive during the signing of performance bonds with agency heads at the Ministerial Management Retreat held alongside the first quarter 2026 stakeholders’ engagement on Thursday in Lagos.

He stressed that all departments and agencies must remain focused on delivering tangible results in line with the ministry’s mandate.

“Let me emphasise that all Departments and Agencies under the Ministry must remain firmly focused on delivering tangible results,” the minister said.

He described the performance bonds signed at the retreat as binding commitments that would be closely monitored and rigorously evaluated.

“These are not ceremonial documents. They are binding commitments. Accountability will not be optional,” he declared.

Oyetola also underscored the need for data-driven decision-making, effective monitoring and evaluation systems, and strict alignment with the ministry’s strategic goals.

“At the institutional level, we must remain disciplined and accountable. Every department and agency must deliver measurable outcomes,” he added.
The minister explained that the retreat was designed to strengthen coordination between policy formulation, implementation, and stakeholder expectations.

“The integration of this engagement enables us to listen, reflect, and recalibrate,” he said.

The highlight of the event was the signing of performance bonds between the minister and heads of key maritime agencies, including the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, National Inland Waterways Authority, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria.

The retreat forms part of ongoing efforts by the ministry to entrench a culture of performance-driven governance and improved service delivery across the maritime sector.
