The Kano state command of the Nigeria Police Force said its operatives have arrested 248 suspects for various crimes within one month, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking and violent public disturbances.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Wednesday, saying the command also rescued three kidnap victims and recovered weapons, drugs, vehicles and dangerous weapons between April 20 and May 20, 2026.
Bakori said Kano remained relatively peaceful despite security concerns in parts of Fagge, IBB Road, Hotoro and border communities adjoining Katsina State, and noted that intensified intelligence-led operations, raids, joint patrols and increased deployment of personnel had helped restore calm in affected areas.
According to him, the command arrested 18 armed robbery suspects, five suspected kidnappers, 32 suspected drug dealers and 149 persons linked to violent public disturbances during the period under review.
Recovered items included firearms, 232 cutlasses, 374 knives, axes, bows and arrows, suspected illicit drugs, seven vehicles, five tricycles and eight motorcycles.
The police commissioner said the command had also strengthened collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to prevent criminal infiltration through border communities.
Bakori reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and community-based policing in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
