The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured residents of Ekiti State of robust security and professional policing ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Speaking on Thursday at the Election Stakeholders’ Meeting and Signing of the Peace Accord in Ado-Ekiti, the IGP declared that comprehensive operational plans have been activated to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and violence-free exercise.

Disu said the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), had finalized extensive deployment strategies covering all 16 local government areas, 154 wards, and over 2,400 polling units across the state.

The high-level meeting drew major electoral stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, political parties, governorship candidates, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious leaders, security agencies, election observers, and members of the diplomatic community.

IGP Disu commended INEC and the National Peace Committee for sustaining efforts aimed at deepening democratic participation and promoting peaceful elections, while specially praising Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar for his continued commitment to national unity, peacebuilding, and democratic stability in Nigeria.

He disclosed that personnel and operational assets had already been strategically positioned across the state to ensure the protection of voters, electoral officials, observers, and other participants throughout the election period.

The police boss further pledged that officers deployed for the election would operate with utmost professionalism, neutrality, and respect for democratic principles, warning against acts capable of undermining public peace or disrupting the electoral process.

He also urged political actors and supporters to honour the Peace Accord and conduct their campaigns and activities responsibly, while encouraging eligible voters to come out en masse and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democratic institutions, maintaining public order, and ensuring peaceful elections nationwide.
