Eid: Military Warns Of Possible Terror Attacks, Assures Safe Celebrations In N/East

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents of the North-East of adequate security ahead of the Eid El Kabir celebrations, despite intelligence reports of possible attacks by remnant Boko Haram and ISWAP elements.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the command said troops had been strategically deployed across vulnerable locations in the theatre to forestall any security breach during the festive period.

According to the statement, credible intelligence indicated that terrorists may attempt isolated attacks on civilian targets using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), especially in crowded areas.

The command, however, said comprehensive security arrangements had already been activated, including intensified patrols, surveillance operations, and coordination with other security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local vigilance groups.

Residents were advised to remain vigilant during the celebrations by avoiding unnecessary night movement, reporting suspicious activities promptly, and cooperating with security personnel during patrols and screening operations.

OPHK also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts through timely sharing of credible information.

The command reassured the public that troops remained fully prepared and committed to ensuring peaceful and secure Eid El Kabir celebrations across the region.
