The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara State Sector Command, has deployed 950 officers, marshals, special marshals and first responders across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations to ensure safer highways and free flow of traffic.
The Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Basambo, who disclosed this on Monday, said that the command also deployed 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and a 70-tonne tow truck for a special patrol operation scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026, describing the exercise as part of proactive measures to reduce road crashes during the festive period.
According to him, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kabiru Kazeem, directed the strategic deployment of personnel to major highways, cities and traffic-prone areas within Ilorin and other parts of the state.
Basambo explained that the operation was aimed at ensuring safer roads, prompt rescue services, quick clearance of obstructions and improved traffic management throughout the celebration period.
He added that the command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks, markets, religious centres and other public places to sensitise road users on safe driving practices.
Kazeem warned motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations, stressing that enforcement would be intensified along major corridors across the state.
He listed targeted offences to include overloading, speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, use of mobile phones while driving, tyre violations, route violations, lane indiscipline, seatbelt violations and carrying passengers alongside goods.
“The objective of this operation is not only enforcement but also the protection of lives and property during the festive season,” the Corps Commander stated.
He further disclosed that ambulances and a heavy-duty tow truck had been positioned for swift emergency response and prompt removal of broken-down vehicles or obstructions on highways.
Kazeem urged motorists to drive responsibly during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, warning that “only the living celebrate.”
