The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has commissioned a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and other security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the initiative as a major boost to Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Capt. Moses Yare, disclosed this on Thursday.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, which took place in Sokoto on Wednesday, General Musa commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to the safety of residents. He said the state’s investment in security assets demonstrated a clear understanding that lasting peace remains the foundation for sustainable development.
The Minister noted that the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, remains committed to protecting lives, restoring peace and creating an environment that supports economic growth. He stressed that addressing contemporary security challenges requires stronger collaboration among the federal, state and local governments, as well as other critical stakeholders.
General Musa said the newly deployed armoured vehicles and security equipment would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of security forces through improved force protection, greater mobility and faster response to emerging threats.
He, however, emphasised that sophisticated equipment alone cannot guarantee success without professionalism, discipline and effective inter-agency cooperation.
“While modern equipment is essential, it must be driven by professionalism, discipline and seamless inter-agency coordination. We appreciate the Sokoto State Government for complementing conventional military operations with community-based intelligence initiatives. True security is anchored on public trust and timely information,” he said.
The Defence Minister also charged security personnel operating on the frontline to deploy the new assets responsibly, maintain the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, and uphold the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
He urged the troops to justify the government’s investment through selfless service, integrity and decisive action against criminal elements, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to leveraging modern technology and improved personnel welfare to build a safer and more prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live and work without fear.
