Nigeria’s Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has been elected Chairman of the African Accountants-General, following a decisive vote at the Association’s Annual General Meeting of the Association held in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
According to a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, Dr. Ogunjimi won the contest comfortably, polling 83% of the total votes cast. Tanzania received 11 percent, while the Republic of The Gambia polled 6 percent.
His election is a demonstration of the confidence reposed in his leadership, professional competence, and commitment to strengthening public financial management across Africa. It also reflects the recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and reforms in public sector financial administration.
As Chairman of the African Accountants-General, Dr. Ogunjimi is expected to provide strategic leadership in advancing collaboration among member countries, promoting best practices in public financial management, and strengthening institutional capacity across the continent.
