Sustained military offensives by troops of Operation HADIN KAI have forced 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), a Boko Haram faction, to surrender in separate incidents in Borno State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said the latest surrenders were a direct result of sustained offensive operations that have continued to degrade terrorist enclaves, disrupt logistics and deny insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East.
He said the group comprised 16 relatives who surrendered in Konduga Local Government Area and an 11-year-old family member who separately surrendered in Bama Local Government Area on August 4, 2026.
According to him, troops of the 222 Battalion encountered 16 JAS family members—10 women and six children—during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga at about 9:15 a.m. The group voluntarily surrendered and, during preliminary debriefing, attributed its decision to the sustained military pressure on terrorist strongholds. Troops also recovered ₦92,000 from the group.
Later the same day, at about 12:04 p.m., an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area. The minor similarly told troops that the ongoing military offensive influenced the decision to surrender.
Capt. Goni said all 17 individuals are in military custody undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further profiling, rehabilitation where applicable and other administrative processes in line with established procedures.
He said the development underscores the impact of the military’s sustained campaign against terrorism, adding that troops would continue to dominate key operational areas, maintain pressure on terrorist enclaves and encourage the safe and voluntary surrender of those willing to abandon the insurgency while intensifying operations against those who remain in the fight.
