Nigerians will enjoy a public holiday on Tuesday, 25th August 2026, as the Federal Government marks this year’s Eid ul Mawlid in honour of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

This was announced in a statement on Friday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The statement quoted the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to have made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the observance.

According to the minister, the celebration offers Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on values central to the life of the Prophet. He said the occasion “gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.”

He noted that these values are especially relevant to Nigeria’s present circumstances, urging all citizens, regardless of religion, to embrace them. “These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever,” he said, “and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them.”

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the period for collective prayers for peace and unity, stressing that safeguarding national cohesion is a responsibility shared by all citizens.

He urged Muslims and non-Muslims alike to mark the celebration with restraint and mutual respect, and extended his best wishes to the Muslim community for a peaceful and joyous Eid.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide and to maintaining peace across the country at all times.
