Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Wednesday visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja to condole with the union’s leadership over the death of its General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja.
Obi was received by NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and other officials of the labour body during the condolence visit Wednesday, where he described the news of Ugboaja’s passing as a rude shock.
“He was a good friend, a gentleman, and a principled advocate for the rights, dignity, and welfare of Nigerian workers,” Obi said, describing the late unionist as a man whose commitment to the labour movement and belief in the cause of workers made him remarkable.
According to Obi, Ugboaja lived a life of service, and his contributions to the labour movement would remain part of his enduring legacy.
He said he found consolation in the knowledge that the late Secretary General had dedicated himself to a cause greater than himself.
“His legacy of service, courage, and commitment will continue to inspire the younger generation,” Obi said.
The former governor extended his condolences to Ugboaja’s family, colleagues, friends, the entire NLC family, and all who knew him, saying his thoughts and prayers were with them at this difficult time.
He prayed that God Almighty would grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss, and grant the late Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja eternal rest.
